In a vast, user-friendly building in downtown Montreal , this central library offers all Quebecers access to their heritage and to contemporary culture from here and elsewhere. From the first book printed in Québec to this year’s latest CD-ROM, the BNQ’s collections include more than four million documents. The multipurpose Grande Bibliothèque is also a busy place, with an auditorium, an exhibition hall, a café/restaurant, spaces for booksellers and outdoor facilities. // Inaugurated in April 2005, the Grande Bibliothèque also presents exhibitions related to the world of books.

 A major player in the vitality of Montreal ’s - and indeed, all of Québec’s tourism industry, the Palais des Congrès convention centre, expanded and modernized in 2002, is a blend of the beautiful and the functional. When you enter by the main door (1001 Place Jean-Paul Riopelle), you are plunged into a world of colour, created by the immense coloured-glass facade and by the play of light both inside the building and out.

 Located in the former U.S. pavilion at Expo 67, Montreal ’s architectural masterpiece, Environment Canada’s Biosphère has been a premier venue for information, education and awareness on the major environmental issues since 1995. As an environment museum, it features exhibitions, events and guided activities for the general public that are related to air, climate change, sustainable development, responsible consumption and green technologies all year round.

Located in the vibrant Latin Quarter, the CinéRobothèque offers Montrealers and visitors technology like no other in the world: a robot, like a jukebox, that plays a movie selected from among 7,400 titles from the National Film Board archives.  FUR TRADE AT LACHINE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE OF CANADA

  Less than half an hour from downtown Montreal , bordering the charming Lake Saint-Louis, is the Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site. Built in 1803, the former stone-clad warehouse is the only remaining symbol of the city’s glorious fur-trading days at the turn of the 19th century. Today, it houses an interesting interactive museum. Step back into the past as you observe trade goods and a superb birchbark canoe, and smell the distinctive odour of animal pelts. Native trappers, French Canadian travellers, and Scottish merchants come to life as in the days when the fur trade was the driving force of the country’s economy. The film Pitcipon shows an ancestral beaver-trapping technique.
