Just north of downtown and east of Mount Royal lies Montreal’s trendiest neighborhood. One of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Canada, with nearly 100,000 people living in a 7.75 square kilometer area, weekend street fairs during the summer can see extremely bustling streets. Characterized by brightly-coloured houses, cafés, book shops, and a laissez-faire attitude, The Plateau was formerly a working-class neighborhood. The combination of different immigrant societies—notably many Portuguese and Spanish-speakers—adds to Montreal’s feeling of tolerance and contributes to our unique atmosphere.
